YORKTOWN, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) – Senior Lois Schoof (Amsterdam, Netherlands-Univ. of Amsterdam) fired a career-low 72 to lead the Eastern Michigan University women's golf team in the opening round of the Cardinal Classic Monday afternoon, Sept. 22. The Amsterdam, Netherlands native sits in a five-way tie for second-place while redshirt junior Karyn Lee Ping (Brampton, Ontario, Canada-St. Augustine Secondary School) and freshman Thelma Beck (Baden, France-Lycee Sainte Anne) also find themselves inside the top-10 with rounds of 73 and 74, respectively.
In the team standings, Eastern Michigan recorded a score of 298 and is in first-place by four strokes over Western Michigan at 302. Ohio carded a 305 to end the day in third place. IUPUI sits in fourth with a score of 308 while Northern Illinois is fifth at 310. Ball State (311), Bowling Green (311), Grand Valley (320), Northern Kentucky (321), Dayton (321), IPFW (324), Cleveland State (327), Western Illinois (329), Valparaiso (333), Central Michigan (342) and Rend Lake (347) round out the first day scores.

Schoof's round of 72 bettered her previous career-low by two strokes, as she last notched a 74 in the opening round of the Rio Verde Invitational, March 7, 2014. Lee Ping is tied for seventh-place with a 73 while Beck's collegiate-low 74 was good for 10th. Freshman Kylie Raines (Dublin, Ohio-Dublin Coffman) recorded a 79 for 34th-place, and sophomore Kelsey Murphy (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) managed an 80 for a tie in 43rd. Playing as an individual, redshirt junior Lauren Stephens (Dublin, Ohio-Coffman-Toledo) fired an opening round 79 and a tie for 34th.
The 16-team field will conclude the Cardinal Classic Tuesday morning, Sept. 23, with a shotgun start at 9 a.m.
