EAST LANSING, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's golf team finished in 11th place on the final leaderboard Sunday afternoon, Sept. 14, in the 31st Annual Mary Fossum Invitational at Forest Akers West Golf Course. EMU's two-day total of 957(328-310-319) kept them 44 strokes behind the University of Notre Dame, which recorded a final tally of 49-over 913 (309-297-307) to win the tournament.
Leading the way for the Green and White was redshirt junior Karyn Lee Ping (Brampton, Ontario, Canada-St. Augustine Secondary School) who carded a 77 on the final 18 holes. The Brampton, Ontario native finished the 54-hole tournament at 23-over 239 (86-76-77) to place in a four-way tie for 41st place. Meghan MacLaren of Florida International University took home individual medalist honors with a five-over 221 (74-73-74).
Playing in her first collegiate tournament, freshman Kylie Raines (Dublin, Ohio-Dublin Coffman) followed for EMU shooting a 79 this afternoon, as she finished in an eight-way tie for 48th with a final score of 25-over 241 (84-78-79). Sophomore Kelsey Murphy (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) and redshirt junior Lauren Stephens (Dublin, Ohio-Coffman-Toledo) tied for 56th with a cumulative total of 242.
Freshman Thelma Beck (Baden, France-Lycee Sainte Anne) carded an 86 on the final day to finish tied for 64th with a 246 (79-81-86). Competing as an individual, senior Lois Schoof (Amsterdam, Netherlands-Univ. of Amsterdam) notched a final round 81 to place 56th with a total of 242 (81-80-81).
Eastern Michigan will compete next at the Cardinal Classic hosted by Ball State University in Yorktown, Ind., Sept. 22-23.
