Women's Golf Sits in 12th After Day One of Mary Fossum Invite

Two freshmen made their collegiate debuts in the first two rounds
Day One Results
EAST LANSING, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's golf team opened up its 2014 fall season at the Mary Fossum Invitational on the Forest Akers West Golf Course. The Eagles sit in 12th place after two rounds of the invite Saturday, Sept. 13, shooting a 638 (328-310).
Redshirt-junior Lauren Stevens paced the Green and White on day one, shooting a two-round score of 157 (79-78) to sit in a tie for 28th overall, while freshman Thelma Beck made her collegiate debut, carding a 160 (79-81), tying for 40th overall after day one.
Karyn Lee Ping shot a 162 (86-76), tying for 57th overall and finishing third for EMU. Freshman Kylie Raines also made her collegiate debut for EMU, finishing fourth for the Eagles and tied for 57th overall with a two-round score of 162 (84-78), while sophomore Kelsey Murphy rounded out the Green and White, carding a 164 (86-78).
Redshirt-senior Lois Schoof played as an individual, shooting a 161 (80-81) in the first two rounds of action, tying for 47th overall.
Michigan State University holds the lead, shooting 599 (307-292), seven shots ahead of Notre Dame who carded a 606 (309-297).
The Eagles will conclude the invitational Sunday, Sept. 14, with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start. Fans can track the EMU women's golf scores at EMUEagles.com or BirdieFire.com.
