Solomon Ijah to Compete in 2014 NACAC U23 Championships

Redshirt-junior will represent USA in the decathlon
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Eastern Michigan University men's track and field athlete Solomon Ijah (Murrieta, Calif.-Murrieta Valley) has been selected to represent the United States in the 2014 North American, Central American and Caribbean (NACAC) Under 23 Championships Saturday-Sunday, Aug. 9-10 in Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada. The redshirt-junior will be joined by Kale Wolken of Doane College, as the two will be the only representatives for the US in the decathlon.
Ijah had a stellar year for the Eagles, breaking the heptathlon record on two occasions during the indoor season and recording the third-best decathlon mark in school history during the outdoor campaign. He set the new heptathlon standard in the first meet of the year, amassing 5,323 points at the Findlay Oiler Opener, Dec. 6-7. The Murrieta, Calif. native then surpassed his own mark at the 2014 Mid-American Conference Indoor Championships, Feb. 28-March 1, when he finished third with 5,377 points. Ijah had another strong opening to kick off the outdoor season, setting a personal record of 7,312 points in the decathlon at the Texas Relays, March 26-27. He ended the 2014 campaign on the podium at the MAC Championships once more with a fourth-place finish in the event.
Saturday's events will begin with the 100m at 1 p.m. PDT, followed by the long jump, shot put, high jump, and 400m. Ijah will conclude the decathlon on Sunday, starting at 8 a.m. PDT with the 110m hurdles and wrapping up with the discus throw, pole vault, javelin throw, and 1500m run.
