Men's Golf Remains in Fourth Place at MAC Championships

Four of the five Eagles are within the tournament's top 22 spots

CARMEL, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's golf team will need to rally in a big way Sunday in order to recapture the Mid-American Conference title at the par 72, 7,073 yard Prairie View Golf Club. Five-time reigning champion Kent State University owns a 23-stroke lead over the field after Saturday's third round of the 2014 MAC Championship.
Head Coach Bruce Cunningham's squad entered the day in fourth-place, and left the course following Saturday's round in that same position. The Eagles carded a third round 303 for a two-day cumulative score of 887 (284-300-303). Tournament leader Kent State continued its scorching play with a six-under 282 for an 852 (286-284-2827) and the advantage heading into Sunday's final 18 holes.
Kent State will be joined by the University of Akron (284-291-300=875) and the University of Toledo (293-286-297=876) in the final five threesomes of Sunday's round. Rounding out the field in order are EMU in fourth, Ball State (292-298-302=892) in fifth, Bowling Green (296-295-309=900) in sixth, Miami (302-296-307=905) in seventh, Ohio (304-299-304=907) in eighth and Northern Illinois (308-301-305=914) ninth.
Individually, KSU's Corey Conners still holds the lead with a 12-under 204 (72-67-65) followed by teammate Taylor Pendrith in second place at 210 (71-70-69).
Four Eagles are ranked in the top 25, including freshman Kyle Rodes (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) who is tied for ninth place at 220 (76-74-70). Senior Brian Churchill-Smith (Oakville, Ontario, Canada-Oakville Trafalgar) is in 13th-place with a 221 (69-76-76). Junior Michael Blair (Ancaster, Ontario, Canada-Nelson-Pfeiffer) is tied for 15th with a 223 (70-74-79) while sophomore Brett White (Caledonia, Mich.-East Kentwood) carded a 225 (71-76-78) for 22nd-place. Rounding out the EMU lineup, freshman Joey Kremer (Toronto, Ontario, Canada-Senator O'Connor) fired a round of 80 for a 233 (74-79-80) in a 38th-place tie.
The fourth and final round of the 2013 MAC Men's Golf Championship will get underway at 7:50 a.m. Sunday, May 4. Following competition, MAC Golfer, Freshman, Coach and Sportsmen of the Year, First and Second Team All-MAC and the All-Tournament team will be announced.
