YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) —
The Eastern Michigan University men's golf team will compete at the 2014 Mid-American Conference Championship Friday through Sunday, May 2-4, at Prairie View Golf Club located in Carmel, Ind.  The University of Toledo will host the three-day, 72-hole event for the nine MAC schools which sponsor men's golf – Akron, Ball State, Bowling Green, Eastern Michigan, Kent State, Miami, Northern Illinois, Ohio and Toledo.

The Green and White will tee off at 9:34 a.m. Friday morning and will be paired with MAC East rival Bowling Green.

The league's men's golf championship will be held at Prairie View Golf Club for the first time ever and for just the fifth time in the state of Indiana. Located on 206 acres in Hamilton County, Prairie View Golf Club is the only Robert Trent Jones, Jr. golf course in Indiana. Robert Trent Jones, Jr. blended 18 holes of traditional golf design into the natural beauty created by the rolling prairie, towering oaks and sycamores that characterize our site on the banks of the White River. A clear running stream that meanders through four holes, natural wetlands, and five serene lakes placed strategically throughout the course serve to complete a truly unique playing experience.

Consistently rated among the top course in Indiana, Prairie View Golf Club has hosted nearly all major Indiana PGA and Indiana Golf Association championships. In 2014, Prairie View will be the site of the MAC Championship (May) and the Indiana PGA Championship (August).

The Eagles finished sixth at the 2013 MAC Championship posting a three-day cumulative score of 1,266 (303-306-310-307).  Casey Olsen paced the Green and White with a 14-over par 302 (78-75-74-75) to finish in 13th-place. Brett White (Caledonia, Mich.-East Kentwood) tied for 24th place at 20-over par 308 (73-76-82-77).

Kent State has won five consecutive MAC Championships, and seven of the last nine.  EMU was the last team to edge the Golden Flashes, winning the tournament in 2007 and 2008.  The two universities account for the last nine MAC Championships.

Playing this weekend for EMU will be senior Brian Churchill-Smith (Oakville, Ontario, Canada-Oakville Trafalgar), junior Michael Blair (Ancaster, Ontario, Canada-Nelson-Pfeiffer), White, freshman Kyle Rodes (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) and freshman Joey Kremer (Toronto, Ontario, Canada-Senator O'Connor).

The winner will receive the MAC's automatic bid to one of six NCAA Regional sites May 15-17. The 2014 regional sites are: Auburn University Club (Auburn, Ala.), The Club at Old Hawthorne (Columbia, Mo.), Lonnie Poole Golf Course (Raleigh, N.C.), Rich Harvest Farms (Sugar Grove, Ill.), Eugene Country Club (Eugene, Ore.) and Briggs Ranch Golf Club (San Antonio, Texas).

The NCAA finals are scheduled to begin on May 23 and will be played at Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson, Kan.
