EAST LANSING, Mich. (EMUEagles.com)—
Eastern Michigan University's men's track and field team saw its fair share of success at the 2014 Spartan Invitational, April 4-5, as it took eight first-place finishes over the course of the two-day meet.

Senior Chris Scott (Holt, Mich-Holt) had a strong appearance for the Green and White, earning victories in both the 100m and 200m. He took the 100m in 10.90 seconds as the only Eagle to finish under the 11-second mark and crossed the line at 22.08 in the 200m.  Scott also was a part of the winning 4x100m relay along with Wayne Blanchard (Toledo, Ohio-St. Francis de Sales), Jeff Elam (Latrobe, Pa.-Greater Latrobe Senior) and Matthew Williams (Moreno Valley, Calif.-Vista Del Lago).  The team finished in 41.68, over two seconds ahead of the runner-up team.

Jason Ervin (Farmington Hills, Mich.-Farmington) joined the group of Blanchard, Elam, and Williams to win the 4x400m relay in 3:23.67.  Ervin also claimed a victory on his own, winning the 400m in 50.53.  Also seeing success on the individual level was Elam, who finished runner-up in the 400m hurdles in 54.33.  Bryce Lindsey (New Middletown, Ohio-Fairfield Senior) took fifth behind Elam in a personal-best 57.79 and also won the 100m hurdles in 14.89.

For the mid-distance and distance harriers, Scott Bradley (Battle Creek, Mich.-Lakeview) took third in the 800m with a mark of 1:55.98, while Clay Strycker (New Lothrop, Mich.-Westfield) led the pack of Eagles in the 5000m in 15:54.34.

Two Eagles notched wins on the field as newcomers Aaron Dewberry (Kalamazoo, Mich.-Portage Northern) and Javion Lee (Clinton, Miss.-Clinton) claimed victories in the long jump and triple jump, respectively.  Dewberry improved on his performance from last week to record a personal-best 6.77 meters/22 feet 2.50-inches in the long jump, and Lee bounded 14.58 meters/47 feet 10.00-inches to take the triple jump.

Though he did not claim a victory in the high jump, James O'Shea (Toledo, Ohio-St. Johns Jesuit) showed vast improvement in the high jump, clearing 2.01 meters/6 feet 7.00-inches to take fourth in the event.  Finishing just after the sophomore were Tyler Brown (Findlay, Ohio-Findlay) and Aaron Benton (Dryden, Mich.-Almont), who tied for fifth after clearing 1.96 meters/6 feet 5.00-inches.

The Green and White participated in four throwing events to conclude the meet's events.  In the shot put, freshman Quinn Levering (Caledonia, Ohio-River Valley) threw for a distance of 16.23 meters/53 feet 3.00-inches to take third.  Six Eagles competed in the discus throw, led by Travis Harris (Walled Lake, Mich.-Walled Lake Central) at 44.46 meters/145 feet 10-inches.  After breaking the EMU record in the hammer throw just one week ago, Keith Williams (Sherman, Ill.-Williamsville) paced the Eagles once more with a throw of 55.89 meters/183 feet 4-inches to take third.  Finally, in the javelin throw, Zach Waldron (Grand Rapids, Mich.-Northview) notched a personal-best 38.24 meters/125 feet 5-inches to pace Levi Selvig (Flushing, Mich.-Flushing Community) at 33.95 meters/111 feet 5-inches.

The Eagles will make an out-of-state journey for their next meet, heading to Knoxville, Tenn. for the Sea Ray Relays, April 11-12.
