Blair Leads the Eagles at Robert Kepler Invitational

Tournament featured six teams ranked in the top 50 nationally
COLUMBUS, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) -- Facing a challenging field that featured six teams ranked in the top 50 nationally, the Eastern Michigan University men's golf team finished in 15th-place at the 2014 Robert Kepler Intercollegiate Sunday, April 13. Battling very windy conditions, the Eagles finished the tournament with a round of 322 for a two-day total of 926 (301-303-222).
Georgia Tech University, the fifth-ranked team in the country, expanded its overnight lead to win the tournament by 18 shots with a 54-hole score of 858 (281-291-286). UAB was second at 876, followed by Liberty in third at 877.
Ollie Schniederjans of Georgia Tech and Frederik Hammer of Ohio State shared individual medalist honors at three-under par. Schniederjans matched the low round of the tournament Sunday with a 67 despite the challenging conditions to join Hammer as the only players in red figures for the tournament.
Leading the way for EMU was junior Michael Blair (Ancaster, Ontario, Canada-Nelson-Pfeiffer) with a 227 (72-7382) tying for 41st overall. Freshman Joey Kremer (Toronto, Ontario, Canada-Senator O'Connor) tied for 53rd with a 229 (75-77-77) while senior Brian Churchill-Smith (Oakville, Ontario, Canada-Oakville Trafalgar) managed a 234 (75-77-82) in 66th-place.
Sophomore Brett White (Caledonia, Mich.-East Kentwood) carded a 238 (79-76-83) and freshman Kyle Rodes (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) rounded out the EMU scoring with a 241 (83-77-81).
EMU now has one event remaining before the Mid-American Conference Championships, which will be played in Carmel, Ind., in early May. The Eagles will trek to the Rutherford Invitational, April 19-20, in University, Pa.
