Men's Golf Finishes Strong at the USF Invitational

Eagles record their second lowest 18 hole round of the 2013-14 campaign

DADE CITY, Fla. (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University freshman Joey Kremer (Toronto, Ontario, Canada-Senator O'Connor) turned in his first career top-45 showing, finishing tied for 44th place at the 2014 USF Invitational, March 2-5. The Toronto, Ontario native carded a personal-best 70 in the final round to finish with a one-over 217 (76-71-70).
Playing in the star-studded field on the par 72, 7,153-yard Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club, Jack Maguire's 10-under 62 fueled Florida State's 10-stroke victory. The Seminoles shot 24 under on the final day, surpassing runner-up South Florida, which held a nine-stroke lead on the Seminoles heading into the final 18 holes. Maguire took medalist honors, making it to 16 under on the tournament after sinking a birdie putt on 18.
As a team, the Eagles closed out strong with a final round 286 to finish in 13th place with a three-day mark of 873 (293-294-286). The final round tally is tied for the second-lowest 18-hole round this season, bettered only by a 282 in the third round of the Wolverine Intercollegiate, Sept. 17.
Freshman Kyle Rodes (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) carded a two-under 70 to end his three-day stint in 55th place with a 219 (73-76-70). Senior Brian Churchill Smith (Oakville, Ontario, Canada-Oakville Trafalgar) closed with a 74 to tie for 66th with a 221 (74-73-74) while sophomore Brett White (Caledonia, Mich.-East Kentwood) finished just a shot back with a 222 (72-78-82). Rounding out the lineup, junior Michael Blair (Ancaster, Ontario, Canada-Nelson-Pfeiffer) closed with a final round 75 to cap the 54-hole event in 73rd place with a 223 (74-74-75).
Head Coach Bruce Cunningham and the Eagles will remain in the Sunshine State for the Talis Park Challenge, March 16-17, in Naples, Fla.
