WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (EMUEagles.com) -- Behind a career-low 70 from junior Michael Blair (Ancaster, Ontario, Canada-Nelson-Pfeiffer), the Eastern Michigan University men's golf team shot a 288 on Sunday, March 23, on the Kingsmill Resort River Course to wrap up the opening round of the Middleburg Bank Intercollegiate in a tie for first place.
The Eagles are tied with No. 50 Texas Tech University for the lead at eight-over on the par of 70, 6,765 yard layout. Blair, whose previous career low was a 71, is tied for fifth place at even-par with Dayton's George Rohde III. UNCG's Carter Jenkins sits atop in individual leaderboard with an open-round score of 68.
Sophomore Brett White (Caledonia, Mich.-East Kentwood) is not far behind as he is in a tie for seventh after shooting a one-one par 71 on Sunday. Freshman Kyle Rodes (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) posted a 73 for 21st place while senior Brian Churchill-Smith (Oakville, Ontario, Canada-Oakville Trafalgar) is tied for 36th after a day one tally of 74. Rounding out the lineup, freshman Joey Kremer (Toronto, Ontario, Canada-Senator O'Connor) struggled with a seven-over 77 for a 75th place tie.
