Eagles finish in seventh place out of 27 teams

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (EMUEagles.com) -- Eastern Michigan University junior Michael Blair (Ancaster, Ontario, Canada-Nelson-Pfeiffer) remained red-hot on Tuesday, March 25, finishing with a round of 77 in 19th place with a nine-over par 219 (70-72-77) Middleburg Bank Intercollegiate. As a team, the Eagles recorded a mark 879 (288-286-305) in seventh place on the 6,765 yard, par-70 Kingsmill Resort's River Course.
The finish was Blair's first career top-20 finish in eight all-time events. Additionally, his 54-hole tally was the best of his young career, bettering a mark of 220 (77-72-71) set at the Wolverine Intercollegiate, Sept. 16-17.
Behind Blair, senior Brian Churchill-Smith (Oakville, Ontario, Canada-Oakville Trafalger) carded a 76 on the tournament's final day to finish in a tie for 25th place with a 220 (74-70-76). Freshman Kyle Rodes (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) placed 45th with a 223 (73-72-78) and sophomore Brett White (Caledonia, Mich.-East Kentwood) came in 50th with a 224 (71-72-81). Freshman Joey Kremer (Toronto, Ontario, Canada-Senator O'Connor) also notched rounds of 77, 77 and 74 for 72nd place.
No. 50 ranked Texas Tech held on to its lead to earn the 2014 Middleburg Bank Intercollegiate Championship with an 11-over 851 (288-278-285) team mark. The Red Raiders also claimed the individual crown as Clement Sordet captured the first place crown by a margin of just one stroke.
Head Coach Bruce Cunningham and the Eagles return to the links at the Kepler Intercollegiate in Columbus, Ohio, April 12-13, followed by a trip to the Rutherford Intercollegiate, April 19-20.
