Brett White paces the Eagles with his second career top-20 finish

NAPLES, Fla. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University men's golf team completed play in the Talis Park Challenge with a ninth-place finish after shooting 314 in the final round at the par 72, 7,025-yard Talis Park Golf Club Course. EMU finished with a 54-hole total of 925 (305-306-314) and No 21-ranked Vanderbilt University took home the tournament title with an 871 (283-289-299).

Sophomore Brett White (Caledonia, Mich.-East Kentwood) finished tied for 20th after shooting a 77 in the final round for a tournament total of 228 (77-74-77). The top-20 showing was the first of the season for the Caledonia, Mich. native.

Senior Brian Churchill-Smith (Oakville, Ontario, Canada-Oakville Trafalgar) ended in a tie for 39th after shooting a 233 (76-78-79).  Freshman Kyle Rodes (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) shot an 84 on Monday to take home 43rd-place. Junior Michael Blair (Ancaster, Ontario, Canada-Nelson-Pfeiffer) and freshman Joey Kremer (Toronto, Ontario, Canada-Senator O'Connor) rounded out the lineup with a 240 (75-87-78) and a 244 (83-81-80), respectively.

Carson Jacobs of Vanderbilt and Marco Iten of Austin Peay tied for individual medalist honors at one-over par 215 for the event. Iten started the day five shots off the lead but was one of only three players in the field to break par in the final round, moving up with a 3-under 69. Jacobs, who started two shots back of teammate Charlie Ewing, closed with a 72.

Vanderbilt's 36-hole team lead shrank by just one shot despite the Commodores posting their highest round of the tournament on another windy day. Vandy finished at seven-over 871, 19 shots clear of a Wichita State team that posted the best final round with a 298. Austin Peay (+37), FGCU (+38) and Notre Dame (+44) rounded out the top five.

Eastern Michigan will return to action as a team, March 23-25, at William & Mary's  Kingsmill Intercollegiate in Williamsburg, Va.
