KENT, Ohio (EMUEagles.com)—
Eastern Michigan University's men's track and field team wrapped up the 2014 Mid-American Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships with a third-place finish, March 1.  The Eagles saw career-best and record-breaking performances from multiple Eagles, but fell short of a title as they scored 110 points to finish behind the University of Akron (140) and Kent State University (132).

In some of the first events of the afternoon, Solomon Ijah (Murrieta, Calif.-Murrieta Valley) broke his own school record in the heptathlon when he finished with 5,377 points for a third-place finish.  Teammate Levi Selvig (Flushing, Mich.-Flushing Community) also set a personal-best with 5,093 points, which ranks as the fifth-best performance in EMU history.  The pair both saw improvement in the final portion, the 1000m run, as they shaved a combined 10 seconds off their previous marks.

Donning the Green and White for the final time in the MAC Indoor Championships, senior Donald Scott (Apopka, Fla.-Apopka) did not fail to impress in the triple jump.  Scott won the event by three feet with a 15.85-meter/52-foot leap to not only beat his own EMU record but also write his name into MAC laurels with an indoor championship record.  Freshman Javion Lee (Clinton, Miss.-Clinton) took eighth in his first MAC meet appearance.

The Eagles saw one more individual victory, as Tyler Brown (Findlay, Ohio-Findlay) capped off his impressive freshman indoor track campaign with a first-place finish in the 400m dash.  Brown ran a personal-best 47.07 mark, cutting over a second off his preliminary time from yesterday to put on the eighth-fastest 400m time in program history.  Finishing behind Brown were Cameron Bolton (Missouri City, Texas-Hightower) and Jason Ervin (Farmington Hills, Mich.-Farmington) in 47.96 and 48.15, respectively.  Bolton went on to score in the 200m, taking third with a personal-best 21.35.  Senior Chris Scott (Holt, Mich.-Holt) took sixth in the event, finishing in 21.83.

In the middle-distance race Scott Bradley (Battle Creek, Mich.-Lakeview) was the only Eagle to compete in the 800m, taking sixth behind a 1:52.39 mark.  The Eagles saw strong performances in the distance events, as Daryl Smith (Windsor, Ontario-Vincent Massey SS) and Willy Fink (Maumee, Ohio-Maumee) went 3-4 in the mile run, finishing just .21 seconds apart.  Fink went on to pick up another fourth-place finish in the 3000m run, this time paced by Lahsene Bouchikhi (Antwerp, Belgium) in the third spot while Warren Witchell (Williamston, Mich.-Dansville) took seventh.

On the field, the trio of Aaron Benton (Dryden, Mich.-Almont), James O'Shea (Toledo, Ohio-St. Johns Jesuit) and Zach Waldron (Grand Rapids, Mich.-Northview) cleared a height of 2 meters/6 feet 6.75-inches in the high jump.  In the shot put, both Travis Harris (Walled Lake, Mich.-Walled Lake Central) and Quinn Levering (Caledonia, Ohio-River Valley) set career-high marksHarris saw an improvement of over two feet in his mark, as he threw for a distance of 17.27 meters/56 feet 8.00-inches for a fifth-place finish that ranks sixth in EMU all-time throws, and Levering tacked on over a foot when he threw 16.50 meters/54 feet 1.75-inch.

Going into the 4x400m relay, the Eagles held just a one-point advantage over the University at Buffalo for the third-place finish.  Needing to score well to solidify its position, the relay team of Bolton, Brown, Jeff Elam (La Trobe, Pa.-Greater La Trobe Senior) and Mason Waynes (Kenosha, Wis.-Bradford) won the event in 3:10.69.  The time ranks as the seventh-fastest relay time in school history, and is the fastest mark since the team of Dean Haqq, Jailu Mayo, Fabian Rollins, and Clement Chukwu clocked a 3:10.08 in 1999.

With the indoor season completed for the team, the Eagles will be back in action as a unit in the outdoor season, beginning with the Toledo Invite, March 29 in Toledo, Ohio.
