Eagles Finish Second Day of OSU Winter Invite

COLUMBUS, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) — Eastern Michigan University's men's swimming team completed its second day of the Ohio State University Winter Invitational with six events in the evening's final rounds, Feb. 9.
The Eagles placed a swimmer in the top-four or higher in each race, led by Nate Schingoethe (Lake Park, Ill.-Lake Park) and Axel Schmitter-Sanchez (Istapalapa, Mexico-Calmecac (Universidad Autonoma Metropolitina), who finished runner-up in the 200 back and 200 fly, respectively. Schingoethe's mark of 1:52.17 put him behind OSU's Dominic Pecze and ahead of Mid-American Conference opponent Jacob Hofmar-Glennon of the University at Buffalo. Schmitter-Sanchez cut nearly four seconds off his preliminary time, touching in at 1:52.73, also gaining an edge on a swimmer from the Bulls' squad.
Three Eagles notched a third-place finish, as Dylan Crompton (Redford, Mich.-Thurston), Dan Proctor (Muncie, Ind.-Muncie), and Erik Brinkhoff (Bethel Park, Pa.-Bethel Park) all swam solid times in their events. Crompton paced teammate Miles MacDonald (Troy, Mich.-Troy) in the 200 free, as the pair finished 3-4 in the event. Proctor finished behind a pair of Penn State athletes in the 200 breast and Brinkhoff led a group of six Eagles in the 50 free, clocking in at 21.16.
In the final event for the Green and White, Proctor swam a 1:58.47 in the 200 IM, good for fourth as the junior was the sole representative of the squad in the event.
The Eagles will swim one more meet in preparation for the 2014 MAC Championships, Mar. 6-8. The squad will remain close to home for the next competition, as it will travel to the University of Michigan for the Michigan First Chance Meet, Feb. 22-23.
