Eagles notch two top-10 MAC times for 2013-14 season

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (EMUEagles.com)--Eastern Michigan University's men's diving team completed its regular season slate as seven Eagles competed in the Michigan First Chance Meet, Feb. 23 at the University of Michigan. Sunday's session consisted of three events against competitors from No. 2 Michigan and No. 23 Purdue.
In the first event for the Eagles, Dylan Crompton (Redford, Mich.-Thurston) was the lone representative for the Green and White in the 100 free. The sophomore finished the race in 46.97 seconds for sixth place.
Three Eagles swam in the 200 breast, led by Chris Hodges (Lincolnshire, Ill.-Stevenson) with a team season-best time of 2:03.49 and sixth-place finish. The mark also earns Hodges the fifth spot in the top season performances amongst all MAC competitors. Following Hodges was freshman Ethan McNally (Loveland, Colo.-Loveland) with a 2:04.44 mark and Grant Schwarz (Greenwood, Ind.-Center Grove) at 2:06.57.
The final event for the Green and White, the 200 fly, saw senior Tom Coates (Melbourne, Australia-St. Kevin's College) pace the Eagles with a fourth-place finish behind a 1:50.27 mark, which is the sixth-fastest performance in the MAC for the 2013-14 season. Fellow senior Aaron Lawson (Middletown, Ohio-Middletown) and rookie Axel Schmitter-Sanchez (istapalapa, Mexico-Calmecac (Universidad Autonoma Metropolitina) followed up with fifth and sixth place, respectively.
Eastern will take a slight break before heading to Buffalo, N.Y. to defend its 2013 championship title in the 2014 MAC Championship, March 6-8.
