Dzik, Krick and Vultaggio named First Team All-MAC, while Rossi earns All-MAC Second Team honors
CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) -- Eastern Michigan University soccer seniors Emily Dzik (Troy, Mich.-Troy), Molli Krick (Novi, Mich.-Novi), Bianca Rossi (Mississauga, Ontario-St. Marcellinus) and Angela Vultaggio (Chesterfield, Mich.-L'Anse Creuse North) were all named to the All-Mid-American Conference teams, the league announced Thursday, Nov. 6. Dzik, Krick and Vultaggio earned First Team All-MAC honors, while Rossi collected All-MAC Second Team accolades.
The Eagles had the second-most representation of any conference institution on the All-MAC teams. Conference regular season champion the University at Buffalo had a combined six Bulls earn the honor, while it also swept the individual awards. Katie Roberts and Jackie Hall were named offensive and defensive players of the year, respectively, while Laura Dougall was recognized as MAC Freshman of the Year and UB's Shawn Burke was tabbed MAC Coach of the Year by his peers.
Dzik found herself on the All-MAC First Team for the third time in her career after earning the honor as a sophomore and being named MAC Co-Defensive Player of the Year during her junior campaign. As a senior in 2014, Dzik played in every minute of every game, totaling 1,761 minutes. Leading the Eagles as a co-captain, Dzik and the EMU backline produced eight shutouts this year en route to the Eagles winning 10-or-more games for the third-straight season and capturing back-to-back MAC West Division titles. The Troy, Mich. native also played a factor on the offensive side of the pitch as well, scoring two goals and recording a pair of assists throughout the 2014 campaign. During the season, she was selected as one-of-10 women's soccer players throughout the nation as a finalist for the 2014 Senior CLASS Award, an honor given to someone who best exemplifies excellence in the four C's: community, classroom, character and competition. Dzik was a familiar face on the pitch for the Eagles over her EMU career, starting in all 77 games throughout her collegiate career, totaling over 7,000 minutes. Although a defender, Dzik scored eight goals throughout her four-year career, showing off her versatility on the pitch.
Krick earned all-conference accolades for the first time donning the Green and White. Krick was a primary instigator of the EMU attack by starting scoring opportunities for her teammates in the midfield for all 19 games. Midway through the season, she was on the receiving end of a scoring chance, recording her first career goal against Illinois-Chicago. In her final game as an Eagle, Krick scored on a free kick to start a comeback in which EMU recorded two goal in the final nine minutes to force overtime against Western Michigan in a MAC Tournament quarterfinal game. Throughout her career, she played in 76 games as an Eagle, making 59 starts in the midfield. Krick also had five assists to her credit, while totaling nearly 6,000 minutes in her four-year career.
Vultaggio claimed a spot All-MAC First Team honors for the second-straight season after being tabbed as the MAC Offensive Player of the Year in 2013. In her final year donning the Green and White, the senior led the team with eight goals scored to go along with three assists. Her eight goals ranked third in MAC statistics, while she was fourth in the conference with 19 total points. The forward started off the season by being named MAC Offensive Player of the Week, Aug. 25. Vultaggio's career will go down as one of the best in Eastern Michigan history as she has played in every single EMU game since arriving on campus. Throughout her career, the Chesterfield, Mich. native has recorded 33 goals and 85 points to rank third in the EMU soccer record book, while her 19 career assists are tied for fifth.
Rossi represents the Green and White on the All-MAC Second Team, picking up her second all-conference honor; she was an All-MAC First Team honoree as a sophomore. This season, the Mississauga, Ontario native was second on the team with six goals and 15 points, scoring the game-winning goals against Ball State and Toledo. Rossi's six goals were tied for the sixth-most in the MAC, while her 15 points ranked seventh in conference standings. Rossi was on the pitch for the Eagles 72 times through four seasons, making 62 starts as an offensive threat in the EMU attack. She tallied 24 career goals for the fourth-most in EMU history. Moreover, the senior forward recorded 17 of her 24 goals in MAC contests. Rossi's name will also be featured in the program's record book for points, ranking in a tie for fifth with 63.
Over the past four seasons, these four senior Eagles have helped lead the EMU soccer program to 37 victories, including 26 in MAC play. This year, the Green and White captured its second consecutive MAC West title to accomplish the feat for the first time in school history. Last season, this senior class played a vital part in the Eagles claiming the MAC regular season title, the program's first since 2003.
