AKRON, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – After a sluggish start to the Firestone Invitational, the Eastern Michigan University men's golf team roared back Tuesday, Oct. 7, with a scorching round of seven-under 281 on the Firestone Country Club-North Course. The Eagles used four rounds of par-or-better to climb the leaderboard to finish in third-place with a 54-hole tally of 878 (302-295-281). The University of South Carolina-Aiken took home the tournament title with a 876 (289-293-294) followed closely by Xavier University (877) and EMU.

EMU's final round 281 was the best score turned in by the Eagles since Head Coach Bruce Cunningham's crew fired a five-under 275 during the opening round of the Windon Memorial, Oct. 16-17, 2011. Besides being the best single-round total in nearly three years, it also is tied for the 12th-lowest 18-hole mark in program history. No other team finished the day in the red, with Ball State posting the next best team score on the day at three-over 291.

Senior Michael Blair (Ancaster, Ontario, Canada-Nelson-Pfeiffer) recorded his first top-10 showing with a career-low 217 (74-73-70). In 46 career rounds at EMU, Blair has now posted seven rounds of par-or-better. Junior Brett White (Caledonia, Mich.-East Kentwood) was just one shot back with a 218 (76-70-72), tied for 10th.

Freshman Nicholas Ross (Dundas, Ontario, Canada-Highland Secondary) equaled his career best round by notching a 68 for EMU's lowest score of the day and finishing in a tie for 31st at 223 (78-77-68).  Junior Jared Multer (Battle Creek, Mich.-Lakeview-Grand Rapids C.C.) and sophomore Kyle Rodes (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) rounded out the lineup with a 225 (79-75-71) and a 229 (74-81-74), respectively. Making his collegiate debut as an individual, freshman John Boncoddo (Brantford, Ontario, Canada-St. John's College) managed a 256 (87-83-86) for 92nd-place.

Eastern Michigan rounds of the fall portion of the schedule at the Sagamore NCAA Preview, Oct. 13-14, at The Sagamore Club in Noblesville, Ind. The tournament will be played at the same site as the 2015 NCAA Noblesville Regional, which Ball State University will host in conjunction with the Hamilton County Sports Authority.
