AKRON, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – Behind a second round 70 by junior Brett White (Caledonia, Mich.-East Kentwood), the Eastern Michigan University men's golf team improved to 10th place at The Firestone Invitational Presented by FirstEnergy Solutions. The Eagles carded an opening day score of 597 (302-295) while Xavier University holds down the top spot with a 36-hole tally of 577 (287-290).

White finished the day in a tie for 17th-place at 146 (76-70) and is six strokes short of the individual leader, Seth Smith of Kansas State University. Senior Michael Blair (Ancaster, Ontario, Canada-Nelson-Pfeiffer) is just shot back in 20th following a 147 (74-73).  Junior Jared Multer (Battle Creek, Mich.-Lakeview-Grand Rapids C.C.) posted rounds of 79 and 75 for 63rd-place with a 154.
    
Rounding out the lineup, freshman Nicholas Ross (Dundas, Ontario, Canada-Highland Secondary) and sophomore Kyle Rodes (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) turned in identical scores of 155 for 68th. Making his collegiate debut as an individual, freshman John Boncoddo (Brantford, Ontario, Canada-St. John's College) managed a 170 (87-83) for 93rd-place.

Eastern Michigan will complete play at the Firestone Intercollegiate with one final round of 18 holes on Tuesday.
