Men's Golf to Compete at Firestone Invitational

AKRON, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University men's golf team continues its 2014 fall schedule with the Firestone Invitational Presented by FirstEnergy Solutions, Oct. 6-7, at the Firestone Country Club-North Course.
The 17-team tournament includes: Akron, the College of Charleston, Francis Marion, Georgetown, Illinois State, Kansas State, Miami (Ohio), Ohio, Old Dominion, Presbyterian, St. Mary's (Calif.), USC-Aiken, Valparaiso, Western Kentucky and Xavier.
The course will be set up as a par 72, playing a distance of 7,125 yards. It will consist of 36 holes on Monday, Oct. 6, and 18 holes Tuesday, Oct. 7. Play will begin at 8:30 a.m. ET on both days, with the second round played immediately following the conclusion of the first round on Monday.
Eastern competed in the event last year with Stuart Grehan claiming medalist honors. Grehan, who was tied for the lead entering the final day, earned Eastern Michigan's only individual medalist honors of the season as he went eagle-par-birdie over the final three holes to win by three strokes at 207 (73-67-67). South Carolina-Aiken (295-294-282=871) used a final round 282 to leapfrog Washington State (289-291-293=873) to grab a two-stroke victory. EMU finished third with a 54-hole total of 875 (298-291-286).
