UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University sophomore Kelsey Murphy (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) finished Saturday's second round of the 2014 Nittany Lion Invitational trailing Penn State's Ariana Coyke by nine stokes. However, by the time all the scores had been recorded Sunday at the PSU Blue Course, the Plymouth, Mich. native had rallied to leapfrog the rest of the field to capture medalist honors with a career-best 218 (77-73-68). Columbia's Monique Ishikawa finished just one stoke back at 219 (74-76-69) followed by Akron's Frida Fougberg and Coyle in third with a 220.

Murphy notched five birdies during the round for the lowest 18-hole round of her career. Her blistering score of 68 is tied for the second lowest single-round tally in program history, as she joins Catherine Fortin (2004-08) as the only other Eagle to record a sub-69.  Additionally, the individual title is not only the first of her career and also the first by an Eagle since Sarah Johnson finished tied for the top spot at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational, Oct. 30-31, 2012, in Wahuawa, Hawai'i.

As a team, the Eagles moved up the leaderboard to finish in ninth place with a three-day total of 919 (313-309-297). EMU's final round tally was tied for the fourth lowest team total on the day. Columbia held on to win the tournament with a final round 296 to finish with a 894 (297-301-296) while Yale was just one shot back at 865 (296-303-296).

Redshirt-junior Karyn Lee Ping (Brampton, Ontario, Canada-St. Augustine Secondary School) turned in another top-20 showing, with a 228 (78-73-77) for a tie for 19th-place. Freshman Thelma Beck (Baden, France-Lycee Sainte Anne) posted a 78 on Sunday to claim 59th with a 240 (79-83-78) while redshirt junior Lauren Stephens (Dublin, Ohio-Coffman-Toledo) tied for 65th with a 243 (79-82-83). Freshman Kylie Raines (Dublin, Ohio-Dublin Coffman) finished in a tie for 67th with a 54-hole total of 244 (80-81-82) while senior Lois Schoof (Amsterdam, Netherlands-Univ. of Amsterdam) rebounded after being disqualified on Saturday for a round of 74.

Head Coach Sandy Wagner's crew continues the fall portion of the schedule at the Hoosier Fall Invitational, Oct. 17-19, in Noblesville, Ind.
