Women's Golf Wraps Up Day One of Nittany Lion Invitational

Sophomore Kelsey Murphy fired a 77 in the first round for 27th place

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. (EMUEagles.com) – Playing under gloomy skies and windy conditions, sophomore Kelsey Murphy (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) fired an opening around 77 at the Nittany Lion Invitational, Oct. 3. Murphy tallied a pair of birdies on the day for 27th-place on the par 72, 6,328-yard PSU Blue Course.
The Eagles as a team stand in a two-way tie for 11th place with a 313, 17 shots behind Yale. The Bulldogs pace the 14-team field at 296 while Columbia stands in second place with a 297.
Redshirt sophomore Karyn Lee Ping (Brampton, Ontario, Canada-St. Augustine Secondary School) is tied for 37th with a 78, while redshirt junior Lauren Stephens (Dublin, Ohio-Coffman-Toledo) and freshman Thelma Beck (Baden, France-Lycee Sainte Anne) are a stroke back with a 79. Meanwhile, freshman Kylie Raines (Dublin, Ohio-Dublin Coffman) and senior Lois Schoof (Amsterdam, Netherlands-Univ. of Amsterdam) posted an 80 and an 84, respectively.
The tournament is setup with six golfers per team with counting the lowest four scores for each team.
The Green and White return to the course Saturday, Oct. 4, for the second of three rounds. On Saturday, the format will call for tee times beginning at 9 a.m. and then a final round shotgun start on Sunday.
