EMU Drops Both Rounds of Match Play on Day Two of Hoosier Invite

The Eagles fell to Ball State and Illinois State on day two of the Hoosier Fall Invitational

NOBLESVILLE, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) -- After coming in as the No. 2 seed at the Hoosier Fall Invitational the Eastern Michigan University women's golf team dropped both rounds of match play Saturday, Oct. 18, at the Purgatory Golf Club. The Eagles were first defeated by Mid-American Conference rival No. 7 Ball State before falling to No. 5 Illinois State in their second round of action.
The Eagles were unable to come away with a victory over Mid-American Conference foe Ball State in the opening round of match play as the Cardinals defeated the Green and White 4-1. Ball State's Allison Lindley won the 18th hole to take a one up victory over Lois Schoof (Amsterdam, Netherlands / Univ. of Amsterdam), while BSU's Kelsey Sears took the round going 2&1 against Karyn Lee Ping (Brampton, Ontario, Canada / St. Augustine Secondary School).
Ball State's Karley Dobis clinched a 4&3 victory over freshman Kylie Raines (Dublin, Ohio / Dublin Coffman), while Jenna Hague took the narrow two up victory over sophomore Kelsey Murphy (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth). Freshman Thelma Beck (Baden, France-Lycee Sainte Anne) earned the Eagles lone victory of the afternoon against Ball State defeating Morgan Nadaline in a one up decision.
In the consolation round of the Hoosier Invitational, the Eagles were defeated by Illinois State, 3-2. Heading into the final hole all knotted up, ISU's Lauren English took down Beck in a two up decision, while Brianna Cooper defeated Raines in a three up final tally. The Redbirds nabbed their third and final victory of the third round of action when Lee Ping withdrew from play.
The Green and White grabbed victories from both Schoof and Murphy, as Schoof earned a one up decision over Hayley Guyton and Murphy picked up a huge win with an 8&7 victory over Maggie Ambrose.
EMU will face off against No. 8 Northern Illinois Sunday, Oct. 19 in a round that will determine the seventh-place finisher. Tee time for the match is slated 9 a.m. Live scoring is available at birdiefire.com.
