Women's Golf Finishes Ninth at Nittany Lion Invitational

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University women's golf team finished ninth at the 2013 Nittany Lion Invitational, Sept. 27-29. The three-day, 54-hole tournament, hosted by Penn State University, was played at the PSU Blue Course (Par 72 - 6,263 yards) in University Park, Pa.
The Eagles were not able to move up in its final 18, posting a 22-over 310 to finish with a 57-over 921 (306-305-310). Second-round leader Kent State University ran away from the field with a final round three-over 291 to finish at 873 (294-288-291), four shots ahead of runner-up Yale at 877 (289-294-294). PSU was third at 887, with Columbia in fourth at 893. Old Dominion rounded out the top-five teams with a 907.
Senior Corey Crossan (London, Ontario, Canada-Mother Teresa Catholic Secondary School) was the top EMU golfer with a 228 (79-71-78), finishing in tie for 25th place. One day after carding a career-low round of 71, Crossan managed to notch her seventh career top 25 showing.
Freshman Kelsey Murphy (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) was next in a tie for 38th with a 231 (73-79-79) after her final round 79. Redshirt sophomore Karyn Lee Ping (Brampton, Ontario, Canada-St. Augustine Secondary School) and junior Sylvie Williams (Christchurch, New Zealand-Christchurch Girls School-Lincoln) tied for 43rd at 233, while junior Lois Schoof (Amsterdam, Netherlands-Univ. of Amsterdam) tied for 65th at 240 (83-78-79). Usanee Laopattananont (Bangplee, Thailand-Thai Christian School) was the final scoring Eagle at 250 (80-84-86).
The Eagles will return to the course Monday-Tuesday, Oct. 7-8, playing in the Mid-American Conference Preview in Fishers, Ind.
