Women's Golf in Third After First Day Of The Preview

FISHERS, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) -- After the first round of play at The 2013 Preview Monday, Oct.7, the Eastern Michigan University women's golf team is in third place with a score of 314 at the Hawthorns Golf & Country Club. The Preview is being contested on the same Hawthorns course that will host the Mid-American Conference Championships in the spring. Eight MAC schools are in the field this week along with eight other teams.
Leading the way for the Eagles were junior Sylvie Williams (Christchurch, New Zealand-Christchurch Girls School-Lincoln) and freshman Kelsey Murphy (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth), who finished the day tied for fourth place with a four-over par 76. Redshirt sophomore Karyn Lee Ping (Brampton, Ontario, Canada-St. Augustine Secondary School) is four strokes behind with a 80. Junior Lois Schoof (Amsterdam, Netherlands-Univ. of Amsterdam) fired an 82 for a tie for 32nd place and senior Usanee Laopattananont (Bangplee, Thailand-Thai Christian School) added an 85 for 58th place.
Competing as an individual, freshman Brenna Hammond (West Bloomfield, Mich.-Detroit Mercy) finished with an 88 in her first collegiate action.
Toledo currently stands in first with an overall score of 304, infront of Ball State (311), EMU (314) and Bowling Green (321). Ball State's Jenna Hague leads the event, currently at even-par with a 72 overall, while Toledo's Manisa Isavas and Sathika Ruenreong stand tied for second place with equal scores of 74.
Tuesday's action gets underway at 9:30 a.m. with the 16-team field going off in a shotgun start. Complete tournament results will be available at the conclusion of play at EMUEagles.com.
