UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. (EMUEagles.com) -- Eastern Michigan University senior women's golfer Corey Crossan (London, Ontario, Canada-Mother Teresa Catholic Secondary School) fired a career-low, second-round 71, shooting up the leaderboard at the Nittany Lion Invitational Saturday, Sept. 28.
After posting a 79 to open the event, Crossan's career-low round moved her 38 places up the leaderboard into a tie for 17th place in the 93-person field. Her two-round total of 150 at the par-72, 6,263-yard PSU Blue Course has her three strokes back of the top 10 headed into Sunday's final round.
The Eagles as a team reside in ninth place with a 36-hole total of 611(306-305), as Mid-American Conference rival Kent State took over the tournament lead with a day two score of 582 (294-288). Yale is second with a 583 (289-294) while host Penn State stands in third place with a 591 (293-298).
Freshman Kelsey Murphy (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) managed a second round 79 to sit in 24th place with a cumulative total of 152 (73-79). Junior Sylvie Williams (Christchurch, New Zealand-Christchurch Girls School-Lincoln) is tied for 28th with a 153 (76-77), while redshirt sophomore Karyn Lee Ping (Brampton, Ontario, Canada-St. Augustine Secondary School) is six strokes back with a 159 (78-81). Lois Schoof (Amsterdam, Netherlands-Univ. of Amsterdam) and Usanee Laopattananont (Bangplee, Thailand-Thai Christian School) rounded out the lineup with a 161 (83-78) and a 164 (80-84), respectively.
The tournament wraps up Sunday, Sept. 29, with the third and final round.
