Women's Golf Wraps Up Day One of the Nittany Lion Invitational

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. (EMUEagles.com) -- Freshman Kelsey Murphy (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) put together an impressive opening round, firing an 18-hole total of one-over par 73 at the Nittany Lion Invitational, Sept. 27. Murphy tallied four birdies on the day to sit four strokes behind the leader in a tie for 11th place on the par 72, 6,263-yard PSU Blue Course.
The Eagles as a team stand in a three-way tie for eighth place with a 306, 17 shots behind Yale. The Bulldogs pace the 14-team field at 289 while host Penn State stands in second place with a 293.
Junior Sylvie Williams (Christchurch, New Zealand-Christchurch Girls School-Lincoln) is tied for 26th with a 76, while redshirt sophomore Karyn Lee Ping (Brampton, Ontario, Canada-St. Augustine Secondary School) is two strokes back with a 78. Meanwhile, senior Corey Crossan (London, Ontario, Canada-Mother Teresa Catholic Secondary School) and Usanee Laopattananont (Bangplee, Thailand-Thai Christian School) posted a 79 and an 80, respectively.
Rounding out the lineup was junior Lois Schoof (Amsterdam, Netherlands-Univ. of Amsterdam), who posted an opening round 83 for 81st place.
The Green and White return to the course Saturday, Sept. 28, for the second of three rounds. On Saturday, the format will call for tee times beginning at 9 a.m. and then a final round shotgun start on Sunday.
