Men's Golf Finishes Day One of Fighting Irish Gridiron Classic

Eagles reside in eighth place heading into Tuesday

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) -- After the first two rounds of the Fighting Irish Gridiron Classic on Monday, Sept. 23, the Eastern Michigan University men's golf team resides in eighth place with a 595 (295 -300). Sophomore Stuart Grehan (Tullamore, Ireland-Colaiste Choilm) and Michael Blair (Ancaster, Ontario, Canada-Ancaster Secondary-Pfeiffer) paced the Eagles in a tie for 26th with a 147. The final round on the par 71, 7,023-yard Warren Golf Course begins Tuesday, Sept. 24, at 8:30 a.m.
Houston, who ended last season in the top-25, leads the field by 10 shots with an opening day score of three-under par 565. Georgia Southern is second at seven-over par 575 followed by Michigan State at 578. Yale's Will Davenport holds a one-shot lead over the field with a score of three-under par 139.
Senior Brian Churchill-Smith (Oakville, Ontario-Canada-Oakville Trafalgar) shaved six strokes off his opening round total to finish the day with a total of 148 (77-71) in 31st place. Sophomore Josh Heinze (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) is tied for 55th with a 153 (73-80) while freshman Kyle Rodes (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) rounded out the lineup with a 163 (78-85) in 77th place.
Playing as an individual, freshman Joseph Kremer (Toronto, Ontario, Canada-Senator O'Connor) notched a 150 (73-77) for 41st place.
