Men's Golf Takes Eighth at Fighting Irish Gridiron Classic

Sophomore Stuart Gehan notches a two-under 69 to finish in 16th place

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) -- Sophomore Stuart Grehan (Tullamore, Ireland-Colaiste Choilm) fired a two-under par 69 in the final round of the Fighting Irish Gridiron Classic, Sept. 24, to finish in 16th place with a two-day total of 216 (71-76-69). As a team, the Eagles closed with their lowest round of the tournament to take eighth place with an 883 (295-300-288) on the par 71, 7,023-yard Warren Golf Course.
Grehan, the reigning Mid-American Conference Player of the Week, has led the Eagles in both tournaments so far this season while posting four rounds of par-or-better golf.
Houston ran away with the team title with a 54-hole score of 847, as Michigan State finished 15 strokes back with a 862.
Senior Brian Churchill-Smith (Oakville, Ontario-Canada-Oakville Trafalgar) continued his solid play with a final round 72 to finish thee tournament at 220 (77-71-72) in 25th place. Michael Blair (Ancaster, Ontario, Canada-Ancaster Secondary-Pfeiffer) and Josh Heinze (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) followed with a 222 (74-73-75) and a 228 (73-80-75), respectively. Freshman Kyle Rodes (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) rounded out the lineup with a 235 (78-85-72) in 71st place.
Playing as an individual, freshman Joseph Kremer (Toronto, Ontario, Canada-Senator O'Connor) notched a 227 (73-77-77) in 51st place.
Eastern Michigan wastes little time before getting back to work this weekend at the 2013 Jack Nicklaus Invitational, Sept. 29-30, hosted by Ohio State University.
