ANN ARBOR, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's golf team concluded the Wolverine Intercollegiate at the University of Michigan Golf Course Tuesday Sept. 17, finishing fifth overall in its first fall outing of the 2013-14 season.
EMU posted a final round score of 282 to go with their 581 from the previous two rounds to finish with an 863 (+11) for the two-day event. The Eagles were three shots away from tying Xavier for fourth place and 12 strokes behind tournament champion, Michigan State, who captured the Wolverine Intercollegiate shooting a three round total of 851 (-1).
The Eagles were led by sophomore Stuart Grehan (Tullamore, Ireland-Colaiste Choilm), who tied for the best third round score with a 67, finished fifth overall, shooting a 211 (75-69-67) for three rounds. Senior Brian Churchill-Smith (Oakville, Ontario-Canada-Oakville Trafalgar) dropped down to tie for 24th overall, shooting a 219 (70-71-78), while Josh Heinze (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) finished with a 220 (75-71-74), tying for 28th overall.
Sophomore Brett White (Kentwood, Mich.-East Kentwood) and freshman Kyle Rodes (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) rounded out the scoring for Eastern as White finished 36th overall with a 221 (77-75-69) and Rodes capped off his first collegiate tournament with a 226 (81-73-72), tying for 46th overall. Playing as an individual, junior Michael Blair (Ancaster, Ontario-Ancaster Secondary-Pfeiffer) tied for 28th overall, shooting 220 (77-72-71) through three rounds.
Eastern Michigan will be back in action on Monday, Sept. 23, when they travel to South Bend, Ind. for the Fightin' Irish Gridiron Classic.
