YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University men's golf team opens its fall season Monday, Sept. 16, at the Wolverine Intercollegiate on the U-M Golf Course in Ann Arbor, Mich. The first and second rounds will be played on Monday with the final round to be held Tuesday, Sept. 17.
EMU last played in the event during the 2009-10 season, taking sixth place with a two-day total of 869 (291-290-288). Brandon Lemons (Portage, Mich.-Portage Central) enjoyed his best performance of the season, finishing at even-par 216 (72-74-70) in 16th place.
There will be 11 teams in the field for the 2013 Mary Fossum Invitational including Detroit, Lamar, Miami (Ohio), Michigan, Michigan State, Oakland, Penn State, San Jose State, Toledo and Xavier.
The course will be set up as a par-71, playing to a distance of 6,704 yards. Live scoring will be available at www.golfstat.com, and play will begin at 8 a.m. on Monday with the second round following directly afterward. Tuesday's final round will start at 8 a.m. EMU will be paired with Penn State and Toledo as a part of group one during the first day.
The Eagles return five student-athletes from last year's team including senior Brian Churchill-Smith (Oakville, Ontario, Canada-Oakville Trafalgar), junior Tommy Conway (Jackson, Mich.-Lumen Christi) and sophomores Stuart Grehan (Tullamore, Ireland -Colaiste Choilm), Josh Heinze (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) and Brett White (Kentwood, Mich.-East Kentwood).
Joining Eastern Michigan will be juniors Michael Blair (Ancaster, Ontario, Canada-Ancaster Secondary-Pfeiffer) and Chad Gehres (Brighton, Mich.-Brighton-South Carolina-Bluffton) along with freshmen Joseph Kremer (Toronto, Ontario, Canada-Senator O'Connor) and Kyle Rodes (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth).
