NASHPORT, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University women's golf team inched their way closer to the top spot in the race for the 2013 Mid-American Conference Women's Golf Championship Saturday, April 27, with a 15-over 303 to move into sole possession of third place with a 621 (318-303) following the second round at the par 72, 6,075 yard Longaberger Golf Club course.

The Eagles sits 20 strokes back of leader Kent State University (601) and will need a solid team effort on Sunday in order to unseat the defending conference champions. EMU entered the day in fourth place behind KSU, Ball State (612) and Toledo, but today the Eagles were 14 strokes better than the Rockets, who now sit in fourth place. Western Michigan (632), Akron (643), Bowling Green (645), Northern Illinois (654) and Ohio (670) complete the team standings.

All five Eagles are ranked in the top 25 including junior Corey Crossan (London, Ontario, Canada-Mother Teresa Catholic Secondary School) who carded a round of 76 to reside in a tie for ninth place with a 36-hole total of 154 (78-76). Junior Alyssa Kwon (Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada-Richmond Hill) is in 11th with a 155 (79-76) while senior Sarah Johnson (Wixom, Mich.-Walled Lake Central) managed a 156 (79-77) for the 12th spot. Redshirt freshman Karyn Lee Ping (Brampton, Ontario, Canada-St. Augustine Secondary School) and redshirt sophomore Lois Schoof (Amsterdam, Netherlands-Univ. of Amsterdam) are tied for 24th with a two-day total of 161.

KSU's Jennifer Ha was the lone player to shoot for par on the day and her 72 moved her into a tie with BSU's Jenna Hague for the lead overall (148).

The third and final round of the 2013 MAC Women's Golf Championship will get underway at 7 a.m. Sunday, April 28. Following competition MAC Golfer, Freshman, Coach and Sportswomen of the Year, First and Second Team All-MAC and the All-Tournament team will be announced.
