NASHPORT, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – With 18 holes in the books at the 2013 Mid-American Conference Championship, the Eastern Michigan University women's golf team sits in fourth place with a 318. Under sunny skies and temperatures in the low-60s, Kent State University leads the way after posting a 303 at the par 72, 6,075 yard Longaberger Golf Club course.

The Golden Flashes hold a five-stroke lead heading into day two, that total includes holding down four of the tournament's top five slots. Ball State is in second place with a score of 308, followed by Toledo (312), EMU (318), Akron (321), Western Michigan (324), Northern Illinois (324), Bowling Green (327) and Ohio (343).

Individually, BSU's Jenna Hague was the only golfer to shoot under par in the first round, carding a 72. The Golden Flashes' Erin Hawe is one stroke behind Hague with a one-over par 73.

Four of the five Eagles are ranked in the top 30 including junior Corey Crossan (London, Ontario, Canada-Mother Teresa Catholic Secondary School) who carded a rounds of 78 to reside in a tie for ninth place. Senior Sarah Johnson (Wixom, Mich.-Walled Lake Central) and junior Alyssa Kwon (Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada-Richmond Hill) are tied for 14th with a 79. Redshirt sophomore Lois Schoof (Amsterdam, Netherlands-Univ. of Amsterdam) notched an 82 for a 28th place tie and redshirt freshman Karyn Lee Ping (Brampton, Ontario, Canada-St. Augustine Secondary School) added an 87 for a tie for 39th.

The second round of the 2013 MAC Women's Golf Championship will get underway at 8 a.m. Saturday, April 27, with the final round scheduled for Sunday, April 28, at 8 a.m. For live scoring, visit http://www.golfstat.com.
