AUSTIN, Texas (EMUEagles.com) -- Eastern Michigan University junior Alyssa Kwon (Richmond Hills, Ontario, Canada-Richmond Hills) recorded a top-10 showing, finishing in seventh place at The Challenge at Onion Creek at the par-70, 5,821-yard Onion Creek Golf Club course, April 1-2.
Competing against some of the nation's best golfers, the Richmond Hills, Ontario, Canada native carded a 72 in the final round to finish with a 215 (71-72-72). The total is Kwon's second lowest 54-hole score in school-history, only bettered by a 214 (71-71-72) by Catherine Fortin at the Shootout at the Legends, Oct. 8-9, 2007.
As a team, the Eagles finished eighth with a team score of 900 (303-299-298) as Gonzaga University took home the invitational hardware with an 862 (279-288-295). Texas State's Krista Puisite captured medalist honors with an even-par 210 (68-70-72). The two-day cumulative total of 900 is tied for the seventh lowest 54-hole team score in program history.
Karyn Lee Ping (Brampton, Ontario, Canada-St. Augustine Secondary School) gave the Eagles another player among the top 35, after carding a 76 to finish tied for 32nd with a 226 (76-74-76). Corey Crossan (London, Ontario, Canada-Mother Teresa Catholic Secondary School) followed with a 228 (76-76-76) while Lois Schoof (Amsterdam, Netherlands-Univ. of Amsterdam) turned in a 231 (80-77-74) for 46th. Junior Usanee Laopattananont (Bangplee, Thailand-Thai Christian School) rounded out the lineup with a 251 (83-81-87) for 66th place.
Eastern Michigan has one final tuneup at the Indiana Invitational, April 13-14, before traveling to Nashport, Ohio for the Mid-American Conference Championships, April 26-28, at Longaberger Golf Club.
