Johnson Fires Final Round 69 at Indiana Invitational

Career-best round for Johnson paces Eagles to third-place finish

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) -- Eastern Michigan University senior Sarah Johnson (Wixom, Mich. - Walled Lake Central) fired a final round 69 en route to third-place finish individually as well as leading the EMU women's golf team to a third-place showing at the Indiana Invitational, April 14, at Indiana University Golf Course. Johnson improved throughout the tournament, cardings rounds of 79, 75 and 69 for a total score of 223 (+7). Her final round of 3-under par 69 on the 6,142-yard, par-72 Indiana University Golf Course was the lowest of her career as well as the best round by an EMU golfer this season.
Teammate Corey Crossan (London, Ontario-Westside Secondary) entered the final round in second place as an individual, but dropped back in a tie for sixth following a 76 on the tournament's last 18 holes (73-75-76=224).
As a team, the Green and White played better each round, moving up the leaderboards to end in third place (313-307-297=917). The final round 297 was the second lowest team score of the season for the Eagles. Indiana took the team title as the host school tallied a cumulative score of 890 (298-297-295). Kansas University finished three strokes behind the Hoosiers in the runner-up position (304-296-293=893).
Alyssa Kwon (Richmond Hill, Ontario-Richmond Hill), Karyn Lee Ping (Brampton, Ontario-St. Augustine Secondary) and Lois Schoof (Amsterdam, Netherlands-Univ. of Amsterdam) finished with scores of 235 (79-79-77), 237 (82-80-75) and 240 (83-78-79), respectively, to round out the golfers competing for EMU.
Competing as individuals, Rushda Mallick (Cape Town, South Africa-Glenwood House-Cape Peninsula University of Technology) carded a final round 78 to advance up to a tie for 65th place (83-86-78), while junior Usanee Laopattananont (Bangplee, Thailand-Thai Christian School) finished in 80th position (93-80-81).
Eastern Michigan has one week off before traveling to Nashport, Ohio for the Mid-American Conference Championships, April 26-28, at Longaberger Golf Club.
