Eagles tie with the University of Toledo for third place in cold, blustery conditions

DETROIT, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- Battling cold, blustery conditions, the Eastern Michigan University men's golf team finished tied for third place with the University of Toledo at the Detroit Golf Club Invitational Friday, April 12, with a 36-hole score of 725 (378-347). The tournament featured a unique format with each team competing with six golfers, while using five scores.
Senior Casey Olsen (Okemos, Mich.-Okemos-Oakland University) notched his second consectuive top five showing, posting rounds of 72 and 70 for a total of 142 in a tie for fourth. Stuart Grehan (Tullamore, Ireland-Colaiste Choilm), Brett White (Kentwood, Mich.-East Kentwood) and Tommy Conway (Jackson, Mich.-Lumen Christi) each tied for 14th place with a six-over par 146. Rounding out the lineup, Spencer Slade (Saline, Mich.-Saline) and Brian Churchill-Smith (Oakville, Ontario, Canada-Oakville Trafalgar) finished in 19th and 28th place, respectively.
Playing as an individual, Josh Heinze (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) posted rounds of 76 and 72 to take 26th with a 148.
Michigan won the tournament with a score of 709. Xavier finished second (722), followed by EMU (725), Toledo (725) BGSU (741) and Dayton (742). The Wolverines' Noori Hyun took home medalist honors with a two-under par 138 (70-68).
EMU now has its final regular season tune-up at the Boilermaker Invitational, April 20-21, in West Lafayette, Ind.
