AUSTIN, Texas (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's golf team sits in eighth place after 36 holes at The Challenge at Onion Creek Monday, April 1, at the par-70, 5,821-yard Onion Creek Golf Club course. The Eagles combined for a team score of 602, led by junior Alyssa Kwon's (Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada-Richmond Hill) three-over par total of 143 (71-72).
Kwon's total was good enough to tie for fifth after the first day of competition, while Karyn Lee Ping (Brampton, Ontario, Canada-St. Augustine Secondary School) sits in a tie for 29th overall after shooting 76-74 for a total of 150. Corey Crossan (London, Ontario, Canada-Mother Teresa Catholic Secondary School) is tied for 36th at 152 (76-76). Lois Schoof (Amsterdam, Netherlands-Univ. of Amsterdam) finished witth a 157 (80-77), and Usanee Laopattananont (Bangplee, Thailand-Thai Christian School) shot 83-81 for a two-round total of 164.
Gonazaga leads the field of 13 with a two-round team total of 567, while host Texas State sits six strokes back at 573. Texas State's Krista Puisite leads all individuals after shooting 68-70 to finish at two-under 138 after one day. Gonzaga's Han Wu is just stroke back at one-under par 139 (71-68) after two rounds of competition.
Kennesaw State (582), Texas Tech (588) and Washington State (589) round out the field's top-five teams, respectively.
The final 18 holes will begin with an 8 a.m. shotgun start on Tuesday.
