Men's Golf Tied For Ninth After Day One of USF Invitational

DADE CITY, Fla. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's golf team continued the spring portion of the 2012-13 schedule Sunday afternoon, March 3, in fine fashion at the USF Invitational. The Eagles combined for a 12-over par 300 to sit in a tie for ninth place with Kennesaw State and Rice after the first day of the 54-hole tournament, which is being played on the 7,060 yard, par-72 Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club course.
Freshman Stuart Grehan (Tullamore, Ireland-Colaiste Choilm) fired an even-par 72 to sit in a tie for 11th place. Freshman Brett White (Kentwood, Mich.-East Kentwood) turned in a round of 75 for 33rd place. Senior Spencer Slade (Saline, Mich.-Saline-Savannah State) added a 76 for a 43rd place tie, while Brian Churchill-Smith (Oakville, Ontario, Canada-Oakville Trafalgar) and Josh Heinze (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) rounded out the lineup with a 77 and a 78, respectively.
South Carolina and North Carolina State each shot a 287 in the first round and holds a two shot lead over Virginia and Mercer, which shot a 289 for second place. There is also a three-way tie atop the individual leaders as NCSU's Albin Choi, USC's Dykes Harbin and Kentucky's Stephen Powers managed a four-under 68 during the opening round.
