Notes

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com)
–  The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team will conclude the 2013 season competing in the Mid-American Conference Championships, Saturday March 23. The conference meet will begin at 2 p.m. in University Arena on the campus of Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Mich.  The Eagles enter Saturday's season finale with a 5-10 record, including 0-6 in MAC play.

EMU Head Gymnastics Coach Steve Wilce joins Eagle All-Access to talk about his team's final and most important meet of the season.

EAGLES DROP FINAL DUAL MEET: EMU fell on the road to Central Michigan University, 196.000-193.500, March 16, in Mount Pleasant, Mich. The highlights of the afternoon for the Eagles came on the vault as EMU outscored the Chippewas 48.975-48.725. Amanda Fuller, Khadijah Hudson and Anna Willette all tied for first on the event, receiving scores of 9.825 from the judges. Those first place marks tied the career-bests for both Fuller and Hudson.

NUMBERS DON'T LIE, BUT RECORDS DO: While the Eagles' record of 5-10 (0-6 MAC) may not look like an improvement to last year's team that went 10-9 (2-4 MAC), there have been increases in EMU's scores this year compared to just a season ago. In 2012, Eastern's highest score was 193.850, and Steve Wilce's squad has eclipsed that mark in half (5) of the meets this season (10), including a season-high score of 194.675 against Southeast Missouri State, March 3.

LAST YEAR AT THE CHAMPIONSHIPS: The Green and White will look to improve upon its score of 193.150 that led to a fifth-place finish at the 2012 MAC Championships, March 24, 2012. Central Michigan came in first recording a 195.675 followed by Kent State with a 195.225. Western Michigan finished in third posting a 195.000, while host Northern Illinois University recorded a 194.525. EMU and Bowling Green tied for fifth earning a 193.150 and Ball State rounded out the meet earning seventh place and a team score of 192.950. Anna Willette led the Eagles on the vault posting a 9.825, earning a 10th-place tie. Willette also led on the uneven parallel bars recording a 9.775 to finished tied for sixth before continuing to be the top Eagle on the balance beam, recording a 9.675 and earning a 14th-place tie.

THE MIGHTY MAC: 2013 has been a highly competitive year for the Mid-American Conference, and Eastern has felt the strength of the conference. In three of its six meets, EMU caught its MAC foes on their best night of the season at the time of the meet, leading to some heartbreaking losses. Moreover, the Eagles have been within .500 of a point in four-of-six MAC meets this year, proving that their is plenty of parity throughout the conference.
