–  The Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team five Eagles record marks that rank in top-10 in EMU history, Feb. 8-9, at the SPIRE Invitational in Geneva, Ohio.

Terefe Ejigu recorded the lone victory for the Eagles, setting a SPIRE record of 14:05.73 in the 5,000-meter run, a mark that ranks as the sixth best in school history. His distance teammate, Grzegorz Kalinowski, almost became the sixth runner in EMU history to run a sub-4 minute mile, finishing the one-mile race in second with a 4:00.29.

Solomon Ijah was the top Eagle in the heptathlon finishing with a score of 4937, good enough for seventh in the Eastern record books as well as a runner-up finish in the meet. Ijah won four out of the seven events against his fellow competitors.

Two more Eagles brought home second place finishes. Freshman Tyler Ross crossed the finish line in 1:19.40 in the 600-meter run, ninth best in school history. Donald Scott continued his stellar 2012-13 campaign by taking second in the triple jump with a leap of 49-feet, 3.75-inches.

In another field event, team co-captain Teron Turner recorded a personal-best 56-feet, 10-inches throw in the weight throw, placing him tenth of the all-time list at Eastern Michigan.

The EMU relay teams competed well as the distance medley team of Ian Hancke, Darrell Butler, Scott Bradley and Cameron Trinh finished in third with a 9:59.52, and the 4x400-meter team of Jason Ervin, Cameron Bolton, Jeff Elam and Chris Scott took sixth.

Other top-10 finishes included Max Babits in the pole vault (fourth) and Matthew Williams in the 400-meter dash (ninth).

The Eagles return to the track, Feb. 16, for the Silverston Invitational at the University of Michigan.
