Eagles tied for seventh place after day one at Westbrook Invite

PEORIA, Ariz. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University women's golf team sits in a tie for seventh place the Westbrook Invitational hosted by the University of Wisconsin at the Westbrook Village Golf Club. The Eagles carded a two-round total of 611 (+35). EMU fired a first round total of 308 and a second round 303.

Senior Sarah Johnson (Wixom, Mich.-Walled Lake Central) paced EMU on Sunday. Johnson shot a 74 in her first round and finished strong with a 72 in the second round. Her 36-hole total of 146 puts her in a tie for eighth place. Texas Tech's Elin Arvidsson, Washington's SooBin Kim and Arkansas' Gabriela Lopez are in a three-way tie for first place with a two-under par 142 (75-67). 

The teams played in cool 50 degree temperatures and faced a strong wind all day which gusted to 29 mph. No. 7 Arkansas leads the tournament with a seven-over par 583 (296-287). The 287 tied the Westbrook team 18-hole mark set by Indiana last year, Feb. 26, 2012. No. 9 Washington and Texas Tech are tied for second with nine-over 585.

Junior Corey Crossan (London, Ontario, Canada-Mother Teresa Catholic Secondary School) is tied for 29th after an opening day score of 153 (77-76). Senior Meredith Fairbairn (Orangeville, Ontario, Canada-Westside Secondary School) managed rounds of 77 and 79 for a 156.  Junior Alyssa Kwon (Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada- Richmond Hill) and freshman Lois Schoof (Amsterdam, Netherlands-Univ. of Amsterdam) rounded out the lineup with a 158 and a 160, respectively.

Competing as an individual, Usanee Laopattananont (Bangplee, Thailand-Thai Christian School) is in 75th place with a day one total of 171 (88-83).

Play resumes Monday, Feb. 25, at the Westbrook Spring Invitational. Due to frost delay, play will begin at 9 a.m. MT
