SEDONA, Ariz. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's golf team is 11th after the first day of action at the Red Rocks Invitational after shooting a 315 team score.
Cal-State Northridge leads the tournament by one stroke at 303 over Toledo and Southern Utah, who each posted a 304. Weber State recorded a 305 and Grand Canyon recorded a 308 to round out the top five teams.
Weber State's Kelsey Chugg, who won The Lumberjack at Ocotillo three weeks ago, shot a one-under par 71 to lead by one stroke over Paige Crawford of Montana State in the individual standings.
Senior Sarah Johnson led the Eagles with a four-over par 76 to tie for 19th. Junior Alyssa Kwon was one stroke back with a 77. Corey Crossan and Meredith Fairbairn each posted a 81. Lois Schoof carded an 85 in the first round.
Karyn Lee Ping had a 76 in the first round playing as an individual.
The second and final round will be contested on Sunday morning at 8 a.m. MT
