YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com)--
The Eastern Michigan University men's swimming and diving team defeated in-state rival Oakland University in a dual meet, 193-103, on Saturday, Nov. 9 at Jones Natatorium.  The squad had a first-place swimmer in 13-of-16 events, conceding victories to Oakland in only the 100, 500 and 1000 freestyles.  With the win, the Eagles impove to 1-1, while Oakland falls to 2-1.

The meet started and ended with a victory for the Eagles, as the 200 medley relay team of freshmen Cole Bateman (Hutchinson, Minn.-Hutchinson) and Kyle Aerne (Lake Villa, Ill.-Lakes Community), sophomore Krzysztof Gilski (Dywity Poland-Adam Mickiewicz State Secondary), and senior Dexter Foos (Fremont, Ohio-Fremont-Ross) took the first event of the afternoon with a 1:32.98 mark.  To cap the matchup, Foos, along with sophomore Erik Gissen (Karlstad, Sweden-Alvkullegymnasiet) and juniors Brian Moore (Anthem, Ariz.-Boulder Creek) and Oded Ivry (Haifa, Israel-The Hebrew Reali School) won the 400 freestyle relay by a margin of .04 seconds over the Golden Grizzlies.

Gilski continued to show his strength in the butterfly events, as the sophomore swam the 100 in 49.47 seconds and the 200 in 1:49.77.  Bateman also produced a sweep for the squad, dominating the 100 and 200 backstroke in 50.94 and 1:51.30, respectively.

The duo of junior Mike Fisher (Saline, Mich.-Saline) and Aerne came out strong in the breaststroke races, as Fisher won both the 100 and 200, while Aerne grabbed a second and third-place finish in the respective events.

Sophomore Andrew Henry (Garner, N.C.-West Johnston) claimed a pair of indivual first-place finishes, as he touched in at 1:53.55 in the 200 individual medley and 1:38.88 in the 200 free.  Moore followed closely behind in the 200 free for a second-place performance.

The Eagles had a 1-2-3 sweep of the 50 free, as Gissen took the lead in the race with 20.99, followed by Foos with a 21.05 mark and senior Gus Everson (Sandusky, Ohio-Sandusky) at 21.07.

Rookie diver Alex Chan (Toronto, Ontario-Neil McNeil Catholic S.S.) had an impressive showing for the Green and White, headlining both the 1- and 3-meter springboard competitions.  Juniors Dakoda Johnson (Greenwood, Ind.-Center Grove) and Sage Stephens (Warren, Ill.-Warren) rounded out the top-three spots in the 3-meter dive.

The Eagles will take a substantial break before hitting the water again.  On December 6-7, they will host the EMU Classic in Jones Natatorium to wrap up the 2013 calendar year.
