Eagles Finish in Top-20 at Notre Dame

South Bend, Ind. (EMUEagles.com)-- Eastern Michigan University's men's cross country team finished up the 58th annual Notre Dame Invitational, Friday, Oct. 4. The squad took 18th in the 27-team field with 461 points.
Senior Harry Dixon (Nelson, New Zealand-Nayland College) paced the Eagles in the 8,000-meter race as the only top-50 finisher. His time of 25:11.2 earned the New Zealand native 43rd place among the 209 runners that competed in the Men's Blue race. Just missing the top-50 mark was senior Grzegorz Kalinowski (Torun, Poland-Nicholas Copernicus University), who nabbed 52nd place with his mark of 25:16.6.
Redshirt juniors Ian Hancke (Haslett, Mich.-Haslett) and Warren Witchell (Williamstar, Mich.-Dansville), junior Daryl Smith (Windsor, Ontario-Vincent Massey S.S.), sophomore Willy Fink (Maumee, Ohio-Maumee), and freshman Nick Raymond (Erie, Mich.-Mason) also helped the Eagles to their top-20 finish.
The race was won by the University of Texas at El Paso's Anthony Rotich, who came in with a time of 24:18.6. The overall team winner was Columbia University, who finished with a total of 113 points for the evening.
Three Eagles competed in the Open race, with junior Cameron Trinh (Oakland, Calif.-Skyline), sophomore Austin Lane (Greenwich, N.Y.-Greenwich Central), and freshman John Knox (Gloversville, N.Y.-Gloversville) representing the Green and White. Knox was the fifth competitor to cross the finish line, coming in at 26:00.2. Only a few seconds behind was Trinh, whose time of 26:09.6 earned him seventh place.
The Eagles are on the road next week for the Michigan Intercollegiates meet, Friday, Oct. 11 in Hillsdale, Mich.
