HILLSDALE, Mich.-- Eastern Michigan University's men's cross country team blazed through the course at Hayden Park to take the overall team title at the Michigan Intercollegiate Championships, Friday, Oct. 11. The team finished with 32 points, which was a commanding lead over second place finisher and Big Ten contender Michigan State, who finished with 75 points.
Freshman John Knox (Gloversville, N.Y.-Gloversville) set the pace for the meet, finishing first with a time of 25:50.54. The Eagles had five other runners in the top-10 for NCAA Division I runners, who earned "All-Michigan" recognition. Redshirt-junior Ian Hancke (Haslett, Mich.-Haslett) notched a time of 26:24.74, good for fifth-place overall. Junior Cameron Trinh (Oakland, Calif.-Skyline), sophomore Austin Lane (Greenwich, N.Y.-Greenwich Central), and freshman Nick Raymond (Erie, Mich.-Mason) came in at seventh, ninth, and 10th place, respectively. Sophomore William Trice (Grand Rapids, Mich.-Forest Hills Northern) was also named to the All-Michigan team.
With only two more races before the Green and White look to defend its Mid-American Conference championship title, Head Coach John Goodridge has high hopes for his squad. "I'm very pleased with the team's effort today, particularly considering that some of these young men trained very hard leading into the race and it didn't affect their competitiveness," said the eight-time MAC Coach of the Year. "Overall, it was a good day's work."
The Eagles will waste no time in heading into another competitive field. The team will travel to Terre Haute Saturday, Oct. 19 for the Pre-NCAA Invitational. "We're looking forward to the Pre-Nationals. If training continues to go well, we're looking for a good showing," said Goodridge. The meet will start at 11 a.m.
