Men's cross country will run in the NCAA Pre-National Invitational
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Eastern Michigan University's men's cross country team will head to Terre Haute, Ind. Saturday, Oct. 19 to compete in the NCAA Pre-National Invitational, hosted by Indiana State University. The Green and White will have seven runners in the 8,000-meter Blue Race and four in the 8,000-meter Open Race.
The meet serves as an opportunity for the Eagles to not only familiarize themselves with the course that will be the site of the 2013 NCAA National Championships on Nov. 23, but also put the harriers up against 51 other teams that are all in the top-15 in their respective regions, including Great Lakes frontrunner Indiana University, which also boasts a 12th-place national ranking.
EMU, which currently sits at eighth place in the Great Lakes regional rankings, will be pitted against eight other regional contenders on Saturday, including Mid-American Conference foes University of Akron, Central Michigan University, and Miami University.
Head Coach John Goodridge feels that the team is ready for the formidable meet. "Our training has continued to go well. The returning athletes have been taking care of business and the freshmen have been having a nice transition. We are looking forward to the opportunity of competing at Indiana State, the site of many NCAA National Championships, including our 2002 third-place national turnout."
The Blue Race will start at 11 a.m. and the Open Race will begin at 1:30 p.m. at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course. Live splits and results are available through www.branchsportstech.com.
