EMU will compete in the perennially formidable Notre Dame Invitational
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — After three weeks without competition, the Eastern Michigan University men's cross country team will be back in action Friday, Oct. 4 at the Notre Dame Invitational in South Bend, Ind.
The invitational is one of the oldest collegiate cross country events in the nation with its 58th annual race being held on Friday. The men's race started in 1956 and the addition of a women's race came in 1987. A total of 1,210 runners will be competing from 60 different institutions between the men's and women's competitors. There will be five races, men's and women's Gold and Blue races and a JV/Open race.
EMU's runners will be competing in the Men's Blue Race, which includes 28 universities. Nine of the top-40 ranked teams in the nation will be represented in Tulsa (7), Princeton (9), Colorado State (16), New Mexico (21), Notre Dame (22), Virginia (24), Florida State (26), Illinois (32), and Air Force (36).
The squad earned a 12th place finish in last year's race and looks to have similar success on Friday. Head Coach John Goodridge said of the upcoming meet, "I'm looking forward to our annual trip to South Bend for this historic event and the opportunity to face many national-level teams from around the country. The Notre Dame Invitational has always been an exciting, competitive race and this year will be no different."
The 8,000 meter race will begin at 5 p.m. on the Notre Dame Golf Course.
