Darkness Suspends Play at Hoosier Fall Invitational

EMU women's golf team in 15th place after round one, firing a 318
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's golf team finds itself in 15th place after shooting a team score of 318 in the first round of the Hoosier Fall Invitational, Oct. 19, at Hickory Stick Golf Club. The second round began, but was unable to be completed due to darkness falling upon the course.
Purdue leads the field after round one, posting a 293 led by Vinh Hoa Hgo's low round of the day, a four-under par round of 67, on the par 71, 6,062-yard course.
Freshman Kelsey Murphy (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) and redshirt sophomore Karyn Lee Ping (Brampton, Ontario, Canada-St. Augustine Secondary School) paced the Green and White in the opening round as each golf fired a 77. Murphy birdied her 17th hole of the round, the par 5, 479-yard ninth hole, but two double bogeys earlier in the round hurt her chances for a lower score. Ping had a steady start to the tournament, making 12 pars to go along with six bogeys for her 77.
Sylvie Williams (Christchurch, New Zealand-Christchurch Girls School) became the third EMU golfer to post a number in the 70s as she came in the clubhouse with a 79. After making a birdie on her first hole of the tournament, the junior bogeyed five straight en route to her eight-over par score. Following Williams was Usanee Laopattananont (Bangplee, Thailand-Thai Christian School) with a round of 85, and Rushda Mallick (Cape Town, South Africa-Glenwood House) shot 86. Competing as an individual, Lois Schoof (Amsterdam, Netherlands-Univ. of Amsterdam) recorded a seven-over par 78.
The second round was suspended due to darkness, and play will resume at 9:00 a.m. tomorrow morning, Oct. 20. The final round is scheduled to begin immediately following the conclusion of round two at approximately 9:30 a.m.
