Men's Cross Country Set for Notre Dame Invitational Friday

Eastern Michigan will face their toughest competition of the year so far in South Bend
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University Men's Cross Country Team will be back in action Friday, September 28th as the Eagles head to South Bend, Indiana for the 57th running of the Notre Dame Invitational.
Eastern Michigan will face their toughest field of the year as the Eagles will compete against 20 teams of the national caliber, including #25 Eastern Kentucky, #10 Florida State, #26 Michigan, #21 New Mexico, #11 North Carolina State, #24 Notre Dame, #17 Princeton, #14 Texas A&M, #20 Tulsa and #29 Washington State.
"This is an exciting opportunity for us to compete in such a large national level cross country competition,” said 12th year Head Coach John Goodridge. “Our training has continued to go quite well and racing #11 Syracuse last week was a good learning experience for the team to build upon."
Other teams that will also be competing include Alabama, Butler, Illinois, Indiana State, Liberty, McNeese State, Mississippi State, Navy, North Carolina and Ohio State.
Eastern Michigan, who comes in as the #7 team in the Great Lakes Region, is coming in following a second place finish at the Toledo Bubble Buster last weekend. The Eagles were led by senior Terefe Ejigu (Mount Cook, Wellington-Wellington College(New Zealand)), who won his second individual title of the young 2012 campaign.
Also, running for the Eagles will be Daryl Smith (Windsor, Ontario-Vincent Massey S.S.), who has consistantly been the Eagles number two runner so far this season. Joining Ejigu and Smith will be Harry Dixon (Nelson, New Zealand-Nayland College), Warren Witchell (Williamstar, Mich.-Dansville) and William Fink (Maumee, Ohio-Maumee) as the top five scoring runners of 2012.
Events at the Notre Dame Invitational begin at 2 PM Friday at Notre Dame's cross country course at Burke Memorial Golf Course. The Eastern men will be running in the final race of the day, slated for 5 PM.
