ANN ARBOR, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- Eastern Michigan University junior Alyssa Kwon (Richmond Hills, Ontario-Richmond Hills) capped a stellar performance by sharing medalist honors at the Wolverine Invitational Sunday afternoon here at the par 71, 6,167 yard U-M Golf Course. As a team, the Eagles finished in a three-way tie for third place in the 14-team field that featured some of the region's best golfers.

The Richmond Hills, Ontario native torched the U-M Golf Course Saturday with rounds of 75 and 75 before turning in a final round 77 to finish at 14-over par 227. Michigan's Alicia Weber and Florida International's Meghan MacLaren also notched a two-day totals of 227 en route to being named co-medalists.

The victory marked Kwon's first career tournament title along with equalling the third lowest 54 holes round of her career. Kwon's three-round record is a 223 set at the Lumberjack Shootout at Wigwam, March 14-16, 2011, and at the Pat Bradley Invitational, Oct.23-25, 2011. Her victory also marked the second time an EMU student-athlete has won the Wolverine Invitational, Stephany Fleet carded a 219 (72-70-77) in 2007 to take home the hardware.

In her career, Kwon has two top-five showings and four top 10 finishes. Overall, Kwon is the sixth Eagle to claim medalist honors in the program's 17-year history joining Stepthanie Smoot, Kelly Pickett, Catherine Fortin, Stephany Fleet and Sarah Johnson in the select group.

Michigan and Florida International were declared co-champions after both finished with 930 totals. FIU was two shots behind at the start of the final round but outscored the Wolverines, 312-314, on Sunday. EMU, Xavier and Illinois and all tied for third place at 933.

Senior Sarah Johnson (Wixom, Mich.-Walled Lake Central) finished tied for 13th place with a 234 (79-74-81). Senior Meredith Fairbairn (Orangeville, Ontario, Canada-Westside Secondary School) posted scores of 79, 83 and 74 for 17th place. Corey Crossan (London, Ontario-Mother Teresa Catholic Secondary School) and Karyn Lee Ping (Brampton, Ontario, Canada-St. Augustine Secondary School) rounded out the EMU lineup with 237 (79-80-78) and a 250 (83-82-85), respectively.

Playing as individuals, Rushda Mallick (Cape Town, South Africa-Glenwood House-Cape Peninsula University of Technology) tied for 54th place with a 250 (82-83-85) and Usanee Laopattananont (Bangplee, Thailand-Thai Christian School) was 81st at 267 (93-89-85).

The Eagles are next in action Oct. 1-2 at The Johnie Imes Invitational in Columbia, Mo.
