YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University women's golf team begins the 2012-13 campaign at the Mary Fossum Invitational, Sept. 15-16, in East Lansing, Mich. The 16-team, 54-hole tournament will take place at the Forest Akers West Golf Course.
EMU finished eighth in the field last season with Shannon Warner turning in a 10th place tie. Competing against some of the region's best golfers, the senior carded a 73 in the final round to finish with a 228 (76-79-73).
There will be 16 teams in the field for the 2012 Mary Fossum Invitational, including EMU, Bowling Green, Ferris State, Kent State, Louisiana-Monroe, Miami (Fla.), Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Notre Dame, Oakland, Purdue, Texas State, Toledo, Western Michigan and Wisconsin,
Scheduled to be competing for the Eagles will be Alyssa Kwon (Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada-Richmond Hill), Corey Crossan (London, Ontario, Canada-Mother Teresa Catholic Secondary School), Sarah Johnson (Wixom, Mich.-Walled Lake Central), Meredith Fairbairn (Orangeville, Ontario, Canada-Westside Secondary School) and Usanee Laopattananont (Bangplee, Thailand-Thai Christian School).
The course will be set up as a par-72, playing to a distance of 6,236 yards. Live scoring will be available at www.golfstat.com and play will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday with the second round following directly afterward. Sunday's final round will also start at 8:30 a.m. All rounds will be a shotgun start.
